Mesa Conservation District (MCD) is dedicated to promoting sustainable land and water use practices that protect and enhance our natural resources. We work collaboratively to support a wide range of natural resource programs designed to preserve the health of our watershed and build resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an energetic and organized District Manager to serve as a support contact between the district, private landowners, agricultural producers, and the community. The DM will play a key role in engaging stakeholders, managing communications, and supporting day-to-day operations of the district. This position involves administrative duties, financial management, community outreach, and supporting the Board of Supervisors (BOS) and district staff in various initiatives.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Serve as the primary administrative and communications liaison for the Board of Supervisors, district staff, partners, and the public.
Coordinate and support board meetings, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and events, including agenda preparation, minutes, and follow-up.
Prepare regular reports and updates for monthly board meetings.
Manage district bookkeeping and financial tracking using QuickBooks Online.
Lead grant and funding administration, including budgeting, tracking, reporting, and compliance, in coordination with the Board Treasurer and District Programs Coordinator.
Support fundraising and revenue-generating activities that advance district programs and operations.
Maintain organized, accurate district records and ensure compliance with state statutory and reporting requirements (e.g., DOLA, CSCB).
Lead district communications and outreach, including website and social media management, email communications, publicity, and media relations.
Lead community engagement efforts and special events to increase awareness of district programs and initiatives.
Assist with annual meetings and local work groups.
Represent the district at relevant community, watershed, and CACD meetings, as directed.
Participate in approved training and perform other duties that support the district’s mission.
Qualifications:
1-3 years of work experience in a related field or equivalent education in managing state and federal grants, accounting, business administration, communications, marketing, natural resources, or agriculture.
Ability to work both with a team and independently.
Demonstrated proactive and self-motivated approach.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop rapport with diverse stakeholders.
Customer service-oriented with a willingness to help and engage the community.
Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new software platforms as needed.
Experience managing content for websites and social media accounts.
Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online.
Familiarity with agriculture, day-to-day office operations.
Familiarity with stakeholder communications.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience with state and federal funding.
Experience with community outreach and education
Experience with event planning and/or management
