This project aims to test the viability and yield of alternative cover crops for dryland production. This is a research study that spans two years and will compare biomass and pulse yield of cowpea varieties planted on varying row widths. The goal is to reduce consumptive water use compared to crops commonly grown in the area.

Project Phase : 2-year trial. Currently Growing in Field for second year of trial.

Project Timeline : Grant funding received in spring of 2022, project ends in Dec. 2023. Funding is needed to continue to test cowpea beyond this growing season. The scope will change to limited irrigation do the limits of dryland production in this area

Goals : Reduced consumptive water use over currently common crops in the area
