Grand Valley Water Committee

The Grand Valley Water Committee (GVWC) was established to create a collaborative network of stakeholders dedicated to addressing critical water resource challenges in the Grand Valley Watershed (GVW). GVWC evolved from the informal Grand Valley Stakeholders group, which had worked for years to address water concerns in the region. In 2023, the Mesa Conservation District (MCD) formally adopted GVWC as a standing committee, serving as its fiscal agent and governance body. This structure ensures that GVWC remains a locally driven and stakeholder-led initiative focused on water management, conservation, and infrastructure improvement.

Mission of the Grand Valley Water Committee

The mission of the GVWC is to develop sustainable water management solutions that enhance ecological health and drought resilience while addressing the water needs of both agricultural and municipal sectors. Our goal is to address identified challenges through collaborative, strategic planning and the thoughtful design of impactful projects. Focusing on a key section of the Colorado Headwaters-Plateau Watershed, our stakeholder-driven efforts are committed to securing the long-term sustainability and vitality of our community and water resources.

The GVWC envisions a future where the GVW is a resilient, thriving ecosystem sustainably managed to ensure water availability, ecological health, and the prosperity of both agricultural and urban communities. Through collaborative, data-driven approaches, we are committed to addressing key water quality and water supply challenges while safeguarding critical habitats and promoting long-term watershed health.

  1. GVWC aims to build local capacity, expand community engagement, and create a robust “Watershed Management Matrix” to identify and prioritize projects that enhance water quality, ecosystem health, and long-term resilience.

  2. We will strengthen partnerships and enhance public awareness of GVWC’s activities and initiatives, engaging a wide range of community members to foster commitment to the long-term sustainability of our water resources.

  3. We aim to complete pre-design work for 2-4 projects that will be shovel-ready, focusing on site identification, environmental compliance, and the development of clear timelines and milestones for successful implementation.
